Transformed a dreary beige condo into a bright and characteristic space.

This summer we worked with a couple that wanted to renovate their condominium into an Airbnb with a personality. The homeowners were drawn to a beachy aesthetic with bold details. As I sit here writing this, it is -18 outside with over a foot of snow. As I look at the photos of this project and reflect on the details, it has me dreaming of booking a vacation to Hawaii or somewhere warm! Nevertheless, winter is cozy and beach weather will once again arrive.

With a studio-style layout, the bedroom opened up into the kitchen and living room with light blue sliding glass doors, which worked perfectly with the owner’s style. To give the space a statement we went with a beautiful palm tree mural behind a one-piece linen-textured Andes bedframe to balance the space. To top it all off, hanging rattan lampshades from Wayfair drooped over the bedside setting the mood with a soft light. One of my favourite features is the barn doors installed in the bedroom and entryway.

In the kitchen, we went with a bold turquoise herringbone backsplash from Express Flooring. Rattan pendants and black steel wicker stools help bring the concept to life.

In the living room, we did a shiplap wall that wraps around the bar area. The furniture we kept practical to the space and multi-purpose. The bar has beautiful oak floating shelves and a natural butcher block countertop bringing lots of natural elements to the space and bringing it to life. New black metal and glass ceiling lights from Wayfair were installed in the living, entry and bathroom.

The laundry room needed more functionality so we installed a white shelving system to store supplies and laundry items with a rod for hanging clothes and jackets. The same butcher block countertop was installed both for function and maintaining the design throughout the space. A beautiful barn door closes off the room and it’s one of the first things guests see when they enter the home.

The bathroom needed some updating without breaking the budget so we simply cleaned up the wall space, added a modern ceiling light, and painted the grout from yellowish-white to a soft neutral grey. The grout colour is Platinum from Custom. A few little changes that made the bathroom feel more spa-like.

Overall, walking through the space creates a feeling that you’ve escaped to a Hawaiian hideaway momentarily. Knowing that there will be many people who experience this Airbnb design makes me very happy!

Thank you for reading and wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2022!
